Who am I?-My community

me

In order to define the communities i am belong to…I first analyze myself, including race, gender, career , interests, lifestyle and belief…and then I defined myself into numerous communities, such as Chinese, students, immigrants, Christians, graphic designer and Internet addictor.wave

Even though I was thinking to talk about my church group members for the TS project at the start of the semester, but since I saw many NEWS related to immigrant issues are shown on the media recently, I decided to change the topic to “Asian immigrants”, as it is impacting to the society worldwide nowadays and it is a cultural valued issue, so I think this topic could draw out more discussions.goodidea

  1. Totally worth looking into, sounds like it could pan out to be an interesting documentary project.

  2. A documentary about Asian immigrants as a community would be interesting. Maybe you could even look at it from a historical perspective?

Apparently there have been a few waves of migration throughout Australia’s history and it was always the newest group that was discriminated against.

British stock was always the colonial government’s preference and at the time, Greeks and Italians were discriminated against. Later on during the Gold Rush, the Greek and Italian communities had gained acceptance but the Chinese newcomers were ill treated.

Right now I reckon that the Chinese community has been accepted and that it is those immigrants from the Middle East who are facing discrimination.

    These things come in cycles.

  3. How is that idea developing? It sounds very broad, and perhaps needs refining into something more specific to give it an interesting angle?

  4. oh..thanks for your comments.
It seems” Asian immigrant” might be a right topic for the project as it draws different points of view from people. I got 3 comments for this post.
    isn’t it a good start..^^
Discrimination is always an important issue for immigrants and overseas. It is something I do not like, but I cannot help myself to not to have any experience about that. It is also something I can never understand why it happens in everywhere, and why some yellow look down black while white looks down yellow? isn’t this is also another thing comes in cycles?
However I think anyone came from overseas would have something to say about this topic for sure. In fact, it is something I was planning to discuss in my project. I was planning to ask immigrant to talk their experience about discrimination for the issues regarding the difficulties to live in Australia as immigrants. But some people suggested me that it’s better I do not talk such “hot” issue for a school assignment, otherwise I might upset some people who actually has discrimination “habit”. Therefore I thought I would not address such issue in my project.
But now I got a comment from Debbie regarding discrimination, and a comment says my topic is too broad from Sean. I started to wonder if I should use discrimination as my focus issues for my project .
